Vending along Charlotte Street in Port-of-Spain will be temporarily suspended in April. The announcement was made yesterday by Port-of-Spain Mayor, Joel Martinez. He was speaking at the city corporation’s monthly statutory meeting.
Indicating that the move was aimed at facilitating a clean up exercise, the mayor explained that vending would be suspended for approximately two and a half weeks. The exercise will begin on April 1st. The Mayor also cautioned that anyone caught vending without a permit during the Carnival season, will suffer the consequences as their goods will be confiscated by police. Mayor Martinez said during Carnival vending will only be allowed for persons registered with the Port of Spain City Corporation and explained that persons who wish to vend must register and if the process has been closed off, they will then have to apply for next year.
Highlighting that some vendors have proven to be “sneaky”, the Mayor called on the police to effectively carry out their duties.
