Cleanup of Sargassum Seaweed on Beaches Continues

mayaro corporationThe Mayaro \Rio Claro Regional Corporation continues to do necessary to remove the large amount of sargassum seaweed on beaches in the area.

Recently the Division of Agriculture in the Tobago House of Assembly said sixteen beaches on the island are currently being cleared of the seaweed.

The Division said the seaweed has affected several areas in Tobago, including Lambeau, Hope and King’s Bay.

In a News Power Now interview Mayaro \Rio Claro Regional Corporation Chairman, Hazarie Ramdeen, said on daily basis seaweed has been removed from beaches in the district.

Mr Ramdeen said the Corporation has also been involved with discussions with stakeholders in the private sector to get their input and help to address the issue.

He admitted that the issue has created a challenge for fishermen and sea bathers.
