Minister of Transport Stephen Cadiz has said that the attack on LPG tanker Virgo Gas on  July 10th in local waters off Port-of- Spain has been classified as a robbery.

He said that it cannot be classified as piracy as the incident took place in local waters.

However he added that the situation is concerning.

Reports indicate that last Thursday a group of men boarded the ship via the stern. The armed men assaulted and robbed the Master and crew members holding them captive for approximately thirty minutes.

Mr. Cadiz specified that efforts are being made for more Coast Guard patrols in local waters.
