Cocorite residents stage fiery early morning protest

COCORITE PROTESTTraffic coming out of Cocorite and other parts of Diego Martin has been back up for miles.
Residents in the area staged fiery a protest this blocking roads with debris.

The protest was triggered by a change to the route of traffic into the area.
Protest began at 5am this morning.
Minister of Works and Infrastructure Suruj Rambachan explained that there was a safety concern with the turn that was made by motorist to enter the area.

Councilor for St James West, Wendell Stephen, admitted that there was a safety issue, but maintained the traffic arrangements worked.
He added that no one was consulted by the ministry when they decided to close the route.

    That turnaround has been there in Cocorite since that road has been a dual carriageway. How many years is that? Exactly how many car crashes have been caused by people turning onto the eastbound lanes in that time? How many would that work out to per year? Was any actual thought given to shutting off either of turn offs there? It would be nice if people making decisions would actually think and also consult the people affected by their actions.
