A number of people within the Ministry of Sport actively worked to cover up the issue involving claims of  sexual harassment against former minister Daryl Smith.

That is said to be one of the conclusions arrived at by the committee set up to investigate and report on the matter. The investigation was ordered by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley after a Ministry employee was dismissed and paid $150,000 as part of a non-disclosure agreement, after she alleged that she was sexually harassed by Mr. Smith.

The Prime Minister has taken the position that the report cannot be made public, because Mr. Smith was not interviewed or contacted by the probe team. He has concluded that in these circumstances, it does not meet the standards of natural justice.

However, in an exclusive report this morning, Guardian Media’s Curtis Williams  published excerpts from a letter sent to Mr. Smith by the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister, Maurice Suite following the conclusion of the committee’s investigation.

Mr.  Williams explained to News Power Now in an interview this morning that the letter contained some of the findings of the committee including claims of a cover up.

The letter, dated August 10, 2018 also addressed the Prime Minister’s intentions in dealing with the matter and the events leading up to Dr Rowley’s claims that the report did not include a response from Mr Smith.
