Vernella Alleyne- Toppin may have gone a little too far in her statements during the debate on the No Confidence Motion filed against Opposition Leader Dr. Keith
Rowley.

This is according to Political Leader of the Congress of the People Prakash Ramadhar.

He made the comments at the COP Public Meeting at the ASJA Boys’ College in San Fernando on Thursday night.

Mrs. Alleyne-Toppin has been the focus of condemnation after she alleged in the Parliament that Dr. Rowley was a product of rape and this, according to her, made him
“aggressive” and “arrogant.”

Mr. Ramadhar acknowledged that persons in public office had to ensure that they tempered their speech.

He has been joined by Ministers Larry Howai, Errol McLeod and Jairam Seemungal who also expressed concern and sympathy over

the statements at Thursday’s Post Cabinet
Media Briefing.

Ramadhar revealed that while Mrs. Alleyne- Toppin’s comments were well meaning they were unfortunate.

However he held that if she had avoided what she had said altogether it could have been a dangerous thing.

He claimed that while she may have gone a little too far, the public still needed to investigate whether or not there was any truth to the allegations.

At the same time, Mr. Ramadhar criticised PNM Senator Faris Al-Rawi who condemned Mrs. Alleyne-Toppin’s statements and accused him of hypocrisy.

He said that he didn’t hear him say a word when his Political Leader made comments about the Prime Minister recently.
