Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar , tells the parliament she has instructed the Attorney General to forward the report done by the Central Audit Committee on the controversial Life Sport Programme to the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Acting Commissioner of Police.
She made the statement in the House of Representatives on Friday.
In May this year the media highlighted allegations of wrong doing and misuse of resources in the programme.
Following this development, Mrs. Persad Bissessar instructed that the programme be transferred from the Sport Ministry to the National Security Ministry.
The Finance Ministry through its Central Audit Committee was also instructed to conduct a full audit into the initiative.
The Prime Minister, quoting from the completed report, said the probe found several discrepancies.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar said the audit also found that no action was taken when improprieties were discovered.
She said the report by the Central Audit Committee has been accepted, and confirmed that the contentious programme will be stopped.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar added that the report will be sent to the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions.
