COP LEADERSHIP DEBATE

NEWS GRAPHIC 3Contenders for the post of Congress of the People (COP) Political Leader, last night faced off in the first of three debates ahead of the June 29 internal polls.

Last night discussion was centered on the theme the COP’s role in Government and coalition politics and was moderated by veteran Journalist, Josanne Leonard.

COP Deputy political leader, Lincoln Douglas was first in to give his response to the question on how he would’ve handle the perceived disrespect of the Fyzabad Accord and the Anil Roberts controversy.

Chairman of the COP Arouca/Maloney constituency group, Rufus Foster, said he would have gotten the memberships views before any action was taken.

But, the incumbent leader, Prakash Ramadhar said the party stood its ground on several issues related to the accord; mainly the appointment of the San Fernando mayor.

COP Chairman, Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan said for the coalition to work the party must maintain its position on the issues.
