COP member resigns after Dookeran endorses Seepersad-Bachan

NEWS GRAPHIC 8Not everyone has supported Winston Dookeran’s decision to reject appeals to return to a leadership position of the Congress of the People.

Party stalwart Robert Mayers resigned in disgust on Tuesday stating that he was fed up with Mr Dookeran’s decision to abdicate the responsibility to give stability to COP and by extension, T&T.
Current leader Prakash Ramadhar according to Mayers failed in his role as the head of the COP, and he expected no difference with Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan.

Mayers, who was COP deputy leader under Dookeran, sent two resignation letters to COP general secretary Clyde Weatherhead on Tuesday.

This after Dookeran, currently in Paraguay, issued a media statement supporting COP chair Seepersad-Bachan ahead of tomorrow’s nomination day for the party’s June 29 executive election.

Calling on members to consider Seepersad-Bachan for the post, Dookeran said he would be willing to serve as COP chairman.
Current leader Prakash Ramadhar recently signaled his intention to run for the leadership position once again.
