Police said the woman’s boyfriend had to watch helplessly as one of the men assaulted the woman at knifepoint. Police believe the attackers were lurking in the bushes, waiting for potential victims as the park is well lit.
The incident is said to have occurred at around 9:15pm as the 28 -year- old woman and her 33 -year- old boyfriend were walking along the jogging track. The men who attacked their victims with knives, proceeded to rob the couple of jewelry, cash and cell phones valued at $4000. The male victim was then beaten and forced to lie on the ground while one of the assailants proceeded to rape the woman in the nearby bushes.
A passerby subsequently contacted the emergency services and the couple was taken for treatment.
The police are warning people to avoid secluded areas of the park, especially late at night.
They are also urging people to visit parks in groups. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the San Fernando police station.
