The murder of a couple at Rancho Quemado in Palo Seco, is being investigated, however, residents of the area, are tight-lipped on the matter. Newsday Newspaper reports that residents say they knew little about Robert Mendoza and his wife, 30-year-old Ellen Joseph. Joseph was said to be a student nurse. The couple was attacked by gunmen who entered their home at around 8 pm on Tuesday.
One villager who spoke with a Newsday reporter on the condition of anonymity said the couple lived a secluded life and attested to the area being a quiet one where neighbours greeted each other warmly. He suggested that the couple may have been entrenched in underworld activity.
Police say the matter may in fact be drug-related. The couple had been in the living room of the home with other relatives, when the gunmen entered and shot only at the pair, sparing the lives of children who were also in their midst. Mendoza and his wife were shot in their upper bodies before the gunmen made good of their escape in a white Nissan Tiida motor vehicle.
Police are continuing their investigations.
