Devant Maharaj says he has no plans to release the phone numbers of Opposition MPs.

This after he released the numbers of 19 cabinet members over the weekend.

News Power Now spoke with Mr Maharaj on Monday and inquired whether he had plans to release the numbers of all MPs, including those in opposition.

He said there was no need to do this, since such numbers are already public knowledge.

Pressed further and reminded of comments he made about ALL public officials being accessible to the public, he added that the Opposition is not well placed to assist the general public with everyday issues.

However, Attorney General Faris Al Rawi disagrees with these sentiments. Speaking on the Morning Pump Show on sister station Boom Champions 94.1 FM, Mr Al Rawi said the Opposition is also in a position to provide answers to the public.

The Attorney General also addressed Mr Maharaj’s actions saying that the real concern by members of the Government is the possible misuse of the information by irresponsible persons.

He said that while the opposition makes light of the issue, their leader, Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar does not respond to business calls, emails or text messages from him.

He said he wrote to the Opposition Leader in efforts to come to agreement on several pieces of legislation and got no response.

Public Relations Officer of the United National Congress, Opposition Senator Anita Haynes, in responding to the Attorney General, said that he wants to make himself relevant as his cell phone number was left out from being leaked.

We made our own attempts this morning to contact the Opposition Leader, and here’s how that went.
