The Attorney General is defending the use of DNA legislation to help in the fight against crime.
Anand Ramlogan highlighted some of the benefits of the legislation during his contribution on the Miscellaneous Provisions Administration Bill 2014 in the House of Representatives this afternoon.
Mr Ramlogan also addressed human rights concerns surrounding the use of DNA samples.
He explained there is a process of elimination as officers seek to get a match which will give them vital information in solving crime.
He added the legislation will also help in improve the detection rate.
