Former Prime Minister Patrick Manning was a man who led by example, never taking a vacation and never asking anyone to do what he was not himself prepared to do.
That is how Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley remembered the former Prime Minister in his remarks during the state funeral for Mr Manning, in the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity this morning.
Rowley noted that Mr. Manning was a man of values who stood for principle, sometimes to the extreme.
He recalled having a discussion with Mr. Manning over that gentleman’s stance that government ministers should not take vacations.
Rowley also remembered Mr. Manning’s astute understanding of people, recalling a time when they both gave speeches to a vacant political meeting.
