Thousands of persons, most dressed in white, turned up to the funeral of Dr Winston “Shadow” Bailey to pay tribute to a man who many at the event described as one of the best calypsonians of all time.
The event took place at the Queens Park Savannah on Tuesday.
The body was available for viewing between 8-9 AM and the funeral proceedings got underway around 10 AM.
In addition to performances by persons such as Mista Shak, speakers included Rawlston Charles, owner of Charlie’s Records and former President, Anthony Carmona.
Former President Carmona noted that Shadow, just like other calypsonians, was under-recognized and underappreciated while he was alive and called for this to be righted.
TUCO President Lutalo Masimba – Brother Resistance, also paid tribute to the Shadow.
He called for the authorities to establish a calypso museum to properly honour the memory of this country’s lost icons.
