An early morning fire yesterday at the Chaguanas home of veteran journalist and Videographer, Ramdeo Heeralal left him in critical condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
His daughter 22- year- old, Ria Heeralal perished in the blaze.
Before her demise, however, 24-year-old Rhea Heeralal, was able to alert the family of the fire. It is suggested that when she went back into the house to check on whether her parents had made it outside safely she became trapped in the flames and was burnt to death.
Neighbors reportedly head screams coming from the home after the fire started at approximately 5:30 am yesterday.
Fire tenders responded however, all attempts at saving the life of Ria Heeralal proved fruitless.
ACP Cecil Santana, revealed that according to reports at this time the fire is believed to have been electrical in nature.
He said that the fire started on the roof.
Transport Minister Stephen Cadiz in a televised interview this morning, expressed shock and revealed that he visited the family after the tragedy.
He also gave an update on Herralal’s condition.
