Early morning rain wreaks havoc across the East/West corridor

The phone lines of the National Operations Center (NOC) and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) have been flooded with calls from early this morning.

Director of the NOC Garvin Heerah has stated that persons have been asking questions about the inclement weather that both islands have been experiencing.

Heavy rains begun at approximate 3 this morning.

There have been reports of roofs being blown off in the Diego Martin area, property damage in some areas, fallen trees over the Lady Young Road and other areas where some roads have become impassable, flora and fauna being blown off trees and into the road, and flooding in some areas.

Persons have been advised to call 511 or 911to be connected to the office of Disaster Preparedness who were already out as early as 3 this morning co-ordinating relief efforts.

Six houses in the Tunapuna/ Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC)ave lost their rooves.

This was revealed by the TPRC Disaster Management Unit Coordinator Rishi Siew who listed where areas where houses are now roof less.

Members of the TPRC are on the scene assisting with efforts to help affected residents.
