The Oilfields Workers Trade Union recommends to the government the revival of the economy and not job cuts in the public sector as the way to go.

OWTU Education and Research Officer, Ozzie Warwick, says this is one of several measures proposed by the union to the state which it is confident can be adopted during these challenging times.

He gave the response as he commented on today’s lunchtime protest at the University of Trinidad and Tobago O’Meara Campus, Arima against proposals by the UTT to retrench workers.

Mr. Warwick warned that the ruling administration can expect resistance from the labour movement if the cutting jobs approach is used as the first line of action to manage the economy.
