Government reveals two major energy companies have expressed an interest in stepping up their investment locally.
Finance Minister, Larry Howai, speaking in the House of Representatives during debate on the Finance Bill 2014 this afternoon, confirmed that both B.H.P. and British Petroleum have indicated they want to increase their financial input in this country.
Minister Howai also noted that the necessary legislative steps will be taken which will help encourage a boost in the production of gas locally.
However, Opposition Member of Parliament, Colm Imbert, warned that feedback from interest groups in the energy sector should not be sidelined before changes are made to the tax regime which governs the sector.
