The Fire Service Association is calling for a level of urgency from the relevant authorities on the construction of a new station in Arima or upgrading of the current facility. Arima Fire Station now operates from the Malabar area.
The Arima unit was relocated following concerns raised about health and safety conditions at the original facility.
Fire Service Association President, Leo Ramkissoon, in a News Power Now interview this afternoon said Tuesday’s blaze at a supermarket in the borough noted the need for the matter to be treated urgently.
Mr Ramkissoon confirmed that two officers sustained injuries at the scene of Tuesday’s fire.
