President of the Icacos Fishing Association, Esook AliWe have no choice but to take it, but it is certainly not enough.

That’s the lamentation of President of the Icacos Fishing Association, Esook Ali

Ali was referring to the $1 million allocation of funds offered by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

At the Post cabinet Media briefing yesterday Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley announced that the Government would give fishermen

$1 million to help them given the almost complete shut-down of the fishing industry.

Speaking to News Power Now this morning, Ali questioned how such a small amount could suffice the many fishermen and their

families and just how the money would be shared among them.

He revealed that the situation now was critical as there has been no activity for fishermen in the area.

He noted that with nothing else available the only other option was to turn to illegal activities.

He reemphasized that while the $1 million dollars offered by the Government was not enough to help all the fishermen and their

families, accepting it was the only option they had.
