Foreign Affairs Minister announces his retirement from politics

Tunapuna MP and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Dookeran held a ceremony at his Tunapuna constituency office yesterday, where he  announced to his staff and supporters that he will be retiring from politics.

Minister Dookeran formed the Congress of the People in September 2006 till he was voted out as leader in 2011.

Now the Foreign Affairs Minister says that the time has come for him to move on. The Minister said that while he will forever cherish the memories of his political career, he has felt some disappointment with the Congress of the People.

New Power Now spoke with former member of the COP Nalini Dial who said the move was not unexpected. She noted that Mr. Dookeran did play an integral role as the founding father of the Congress of the People.
