Former Education Minister questions measures implemented by Gov’t to assist students financially

Former Tertiary Education Minister Fazal Karim is today asking what measures have been put in place by the Government to assist students experiencing financial difficulties.

He says that the reason that there is a decline in the GATE program is because of the uncertainty of the Government and the Minister of Education.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102.1fm this morning, Mr. Karim questioned why the Government and the Ministry of Education issued clear criteria.

The Means Test as stated by the Ministry of Education says that anytime there a household earns more than 10 thousand dollars a month does not qualify for the GATE Program.

Mr. Karim also questioned whether or not the test was subjective.
