Former Foreign Affairs Minister, Ralph Maraj, says the time has come for Trinidad and Tobago to put the necessary steps in place, following its decision 18 years ago to sign onto the International Convention on the treatment of refugees.

Mr. Maraj maintains that follow through on this issue in terms of the relevant legislation and support systems are critical.

He made the comment while speaking on the State of the Nation Programme on Power 102.1FM on Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Maraj said with social and economic unrest taking place in many countries, having proper structures to treat with this kind of situation cannot be sidelined or taken for granted.
