Speaking on the Power Breakfast Morning Show on power 102.1fm today, the MP for Barataria/San Juan revealed that with the onset of the Zika virus in Trinidad, it was now imperative that a discussion was started by women’s groups, religious organizations and politicians.
He divulged that the issue of a connection between the Zika virus and Microcephaly was not a concern during his time as Minister of Health.
However he said now that it had become a very real issue it was important that discussions were started on a woman’s right to choose.
He congratulated Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley for comments he made yesterday acknowledging that there was a problem with what he termed ‘backyard abortions’ in this country and his promise to look at legislation to protect women.
He also stated that if politicians continued to pander to the church and their beliefs then many women would be put at risk.
