Former Health Minister says no patient should be denied treatment in an emergency

No patient, whether a national of this country or non-national, should ever be turned away in an emergency health situation. Former Health Minister, Dr. Fuad Khan this morning saying 19 year old Venezuelan national, Christian Alejandro Naval should have been approved by the authorities for further treatment, without delay.

Dr. Khan, speaking on the Power Breakfast morning show here on Power 102.1FM, said no one should ever be denied emergency healthcare services in this country.

He explained that all effort should be made by doctors at local healthcare institutions, to stabilize patients whose lives are deemed to be threatened.

According to reports, Naval had been vacationing in Trinidad and Tobago and while here he injured his foot. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex earlier this month after complaining of feeling unwell and weak. It was subsequently found that he had been suffering from leukemia and low blood count. According to a friend of the deceased, Naval had been given strict instructions return to Venezuela for the necessary medical care.
