Former Minister of National Security, Martin Joseph has passed away.
Mr. Joseph is said to have drowned this morning on the sister isle Tobago.
The former Minister had reportedly gone for a swim with friends at around 7:30 this morning when he disappeared beneath the water at Mt. Irvin Bay.
Reports indicate that his body was discovered shortly after by police officials in Tobago.
Investigations are ongoing.
From 1995 to 2002, Joseph was the Member of Parliament for the St. Ann’s East Constituency.
His appointment as a Cabinet minister began in 2001 when he assumed the portfolio of Minister of Public Utilities and the Environment.
In October 2002, he was made a Government Senator and was given the portfolio of Minister of Housing, an appointment he held until November 2003
Joseph was appointed Minister of National Security in November 2003.
Condolences continue to pour in regarding the sudden passing of former Minister of National Security, Martin Joseph.
Joseph’s body was found washed ashore near Grange Bay around 8:05am.
Former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday said he was deeply sorry and the death of any human life is a major loss to humanity.
