Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday brought to an end, the contentious matter of non-payment of outstanding monies due to members of the Trinidad and Tobago “Soca Warriors” football team arising from their participation in the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany.
Before making the announcement, the Prime Minister referenced the widespread interest by Trinidad and Tobago citizens in the current World Cup finals in Brazil, saying that watching the events being played out there had rekindled vivid memories of the moment when TT’s Soca Warriors had joined the world’s best in Germany 2006.
The Prime Minister noted that the non-settlement of the debt also depended on an entity in the Football Federation that is unlikely to be in a position to pay.
As the Prime Minister made the gesture she called for reconciliation between the players and the TTFA.
