Former Prime Minister not ruling out contesting next year’s general election

San Fernando East MP Patrick ManningFormer prime minister and People’s National Movement (PNM) leader Patrick Manning has said he may contest the next general elections once his health permits.

Mr. Manning whose statements were read by former minister Mustapha Abdul Hamid said he will give a definitive answer in due time.

The PNM held a meeting at the Pleasantville Community Centre where it was expected that a successor to Mr. Manning would be named.

Mr. Abdul Hamid revealed his candidacy will be announced early next year.

The former PM has suffered ill health over the past few years following a stroke.

Mr. Manning served the constituency of San Fernando East for more than two decades.
