Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development, Dr. Bhoe Tewarie has said that Dr. Merle Hodge’s statements that the runoff vote proposal was not part of initial consultations are correct.
Dr. Tewarie said the issue did arise in follow up consultations.
He added that although consultation committees make recommendations, it is up to the Parliament to decide what recommendations are put forward.
Dr. Tewarie said the proposals are not anti-democratic as suggested by Dr. Hodge.
He claimed to understand the suspicion throughout the country but asks citizens to investigate the facts closely before condemning the proposals.
