Government contemplates stricter road rules for drivers between 18 and 25 years old.

Government is confident progress will be made in reducing carnage on the nation’s roads.

Speaking during the start of debate in the House of Representatives on the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Bill 2014, Works and Infrastructure Minister , Dr Suruj Ramchanran, said the legislation contains critical elements to reduce dangerous driving.

Minister Rambachan said the legislation also contains new requirements for drivers.

However, the Opposition People’s National Movement St Joseph Member of Parliament, Terrence Deyalsingh , suggested that the government should allow a Joint Select Committee to review the legislation.

He said there is also need for more factual details from the government surrounding moves to place a ban on drivers 18 to 25 between 12 am and 5am.
