Government Minister Stuart Young says that as the flood clean-up continues, there are only a few areas which remain under water.
He gave the update while speaking at a media conference on Wednesday to update the public on the floods and relief efforts along with the Education Minister Anthony Garcia, Minister of Agriculture Clarence Rambarat, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan and Minister of Social Development, Cherrie-Ann Crichlow-Cockburn.
Mr Young also addressed what he termed as “distorted realities” being shared on social media.
Referring specifically to news of deaths due to leptospirosis as a result of the floods, Mr Young says this has not been the case.
Meanwhile, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan acknowledged that there is a serious problem with our watercourses.
He said that a programme has already started for the Caroni River with the rebuilding of the banks and pumps.
Minister of Education Anthony Garcia revealed that several schools that were closed due to flooding have been reopened.
He said that some schools are still closed as a result of flood waters that are still on the compound.
