Animal Behaviorist, Kristel Ramnath said the government is not ready for the implementation of the Dog Control Act.
According to Ms. Ramnath the Act which takes effect today calls for registration of the dogs but no system has been put in place to do so.
She added that the issue of Insurance for the dogs is yet to be addressed by the government.
Other stipulations such as the required height of fences surrounding homes have not been finalized by the government.
Ms. Ramnath said the government also requested special leashes for dogs when out in public but the type is yet to be outlined.
She claimed it is the government that needs a grace period for further preparation.
