Government to bring legislative agenda to parliament soon

Government has promised to bring its legislative agenda to Parliament in the coming weeks.

Attorney General, Faris Al-Rawi informed Parliament that talks were underway on key pieces of legislation.

Chief among these would be whistle blower and public procurement legislation and changes to the process used to select a Commissioner of Police.

He said that they were presently dealing with the legislative mechanisms of the Whistle blower Protection 2015 Bill and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Amendment Bill 2015 to cause the appointment of a Commissioner of Police.

He said that they expected to be completed with that process no later than the end of November 2015.

The Whistle blower Protection 2015 Bill and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Amendment Bill 2015 has been sent to a Joint Select Committee (JSC) of Parliament for review.

In explaining why the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Amendment Bill was sent to Finance Minister Colm Imbert said the Bill which was assented by the President this is deficient.
