Minister of Planning, Dr. Bhoe Tewarie, says government is looking at ways to reduce this country’s poverty level by two percent, every year for the next five years.

The Minister says the matter is of concern but persons should not be alarmed about it.

In an interview this morning, Dr. Tewarie said the global financial collapse in 2009 would have contributed the increase in poverty because person would have lost their jobs.

But he says the situation should be improved with economic restructuring.

Minister Tewarie notes the solution is not only through social programmes, but also by helping individuals learn a skill to get them out of poverty.
