Housing and Environment Minister, Dr Roodlal Moonilal, continues to champion the government’s defense for an extension of the state of emergency which was declared on August 21st.
Speaking during debate on the motion in the House of Representatives this morning, Minister Moonilal said the measure has brought positive results with over one thousand arrests for various offences.
He questioned why there is now a level of urgency from members of the opposition to gave details concerning what should be done in the fight against crime.
Minister Moonilal wanted to find out where was this sense of purpose to tackle crime when the PNM was in government.
St Ann’s East Member of Parliament, Joanne Thomas, said in spite of having over thousand arrests during the state of emergency the number of persons charged will also be a critical factor.
