Speaking in the Upper House last night, the National Security Minister, Gary Griffith took the opportunity to boast of a presently safe Laventille, emphasizing that the area that has been coined, a hot spot, is the safest it has ever been in this country’s history.
Minister Griffith said the reduced murder rate in the area is owed in part to the soldier patrols that have been maintained.
The minister’s comment during debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill was lauded by Temporary Opposition senator, Fitzgerald Hinds who said that much like any other citizen of this country, he was happy and proud of Minister Grffith’s report of a reduced murder rate in Laventille.
He said this should be encouraged.
Hinds also said he supports the soldier patrols in the area, as long as they operate within the confines of the law.
