In Guyana, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Karen-Boyle has confirmed that Guyana is presently monitoring nine persons who recently returned from China.
Gordon-Boyle said those being monitored are believed to have returned from studying on scholarship. She said the monitoring of these students was simply routine. Several countries have adopted precautionary travel measures as a result of increased fear over the spread of the virus.
One woman who arrived at the Piarco International Airport this week, was denied entry as a result of the measure, which denies entry to persons traveling from a coronavirus zone, unless those persons are citizens or residents of the country they are traveling to. The woman, according to CMO Dr. Roshan Parasram, would have travelled through territories such as Hong Kong, and New York before arriving Guyana and then Trinidad. Dr. Parasram said while the woman showed no symptoms, she was returned because of the travel restrictions from China.
