The country’s confirmed dengue count for the year now stands at 23, with the recent health scare by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh.
The Health Minister revealed at a media conference at his Park and Edward Streets, Port of Spain office today that his recent sudden hospitalization was due to dengue.
Deyalsingh was admitted to the Port of Spain General Hospital on July 13 after experiencing a two-day history of fever and fatigue.
He underwent several tests, including a blood test and his condition was monitored and treated before being released the following day.
Deyalsingh said his blood platelet count at the time of admission to hospital was “dangerously low”.
The Health Minister said he has been ordered to keep his schedule light and was forced cut work scheduled on weekends.
Asked about reports that he also became a victim of a national drug shortage while at POSGH, Deyalsingh said that was “untrue”.
He described his experience at the hospital as “wonderful” and said he neither asked for nor received any special treatment.
