Minister of Health Dr. Fuad Khan has stated that the $5.5 million allocated to the Health Ministry will be spent on improving the quality of health care provided to citizens.
Along with promising hospitals and health programs, he also pledged $20 million to a new diabetic eye program.
He highlighted the many failures of the last administration which led to the deterioration of the country’s health sector.
The Minister explained that the financial allocation to the health sector in the 2015 fiscal package now allowed him to make significant improvements in the health sector.
He listed other examples of PNM failures, including the Oncology Center and the Tobago Hospital.
In addition to focusing on the primary health care services, the Minister claimed that this Government had the foresight to create prevention programs.
He also announced that the cabinet approved a Diabetic Retinopathy System.
He divulged that wellness centers at clinics throughout the country will allow for screening of a wide range of health concerns.
