Today there is news that the World Health Organization has declared the Zika virus as a global health emergency.

Experts are worried that the virus is spreading far and fast, with devastating consequences.

The WHO alert puts Zika in the same category of international concern as Ebola.

Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh revealed that it was clear to himself and the Cabinet that something had to done with respect to the virus.

He was speaking on the Power Breakfast Morning Show on Power 102.1fm today.

He said while there is no clinical evidence that the Zika virus has reached our shores, it is possible that its already in Trinidad and Tobago.

He also sought to clarify whether or not the Zika virus could be spread from one partner to another via sexual contact.
