Minister of Health, Terrance Deyalsingh on Sunday paid an unplanned visit to the Port-of General Hospital where he was privy to workers complaints and queries.
The Ministry of Health via a media release said the Minister’s visit was intended to give all workers an opportunity to speak with him one on one.
The main areas which were visited by Minister Deyalsingh at the hospital were the kitchen, the Central Sterilization Unit and the Minor Operating Theatre attached to the Accident and Emergency Department.
According to the release several members of staff took the opportunity to alert the Minister to longstanding issues which have gone unresolved since 2013.
The Minister assured the staff that these issues would be brought to the attention of the Board of the North West Regional Health Authority and the Hospital Administrator in order to have their concerns addressed
Within 24 hours some of the issues were already being resolved.
Meanwhile News Power Now spoke to President of the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association; Idi Stewart said a burning issue at Regional Health Authorities is training for nurses to deal with prisoners both at the RHA’s and at the St. Ann’s Medical Hospital.
Stewart said nurses are at risk daily and on some instances the TTPS riot squad have been called in to deal with such instances.
