The body of Richard Baird remains in the Arepo forest at this time. Efforts are however being made by the helicopter crew and rescuers to remove the hiker’s body from the trail where it was found yesterday.
Baird went missing on Saturday. He had gone hiking with a group, however he fell behind twice and was subsequently left behind. According to reports, Baird was diabetic. Reports state that his body was found down a 600-foot precipice.
Yesterday a helicopter crew made several trips to the location of his body taking equipment and man power to clear a path to hoist the body, however efforts proved futile due to the lack of light upon nightfall.
The police service said the body was secured yesterday to make today’s effort easier.
This morning they returned to the site just after 10 am and there is the expectation that the body would be retrieved today.
