Husband-wife argument turns deadly in Arouca

Police are investigating an incident that occurred in Arouca last evening which has left a woman dead and one man in critical condition at hospital.

Officers received information that round 7pm a women, who has since been identified as Anika La Rosa was seen arguing with her common-law husband, Clifford Samuel.

It is alleged that La Rosa threw a flammable substance on both herself and Samuel during that domestic dispute at their home at Eighth Street, Range Road, Five Rivers

The couple was later seen on fire. Witnesses say the woman ran into their wooden house and the flames spread throughout the home.

Residents assisted Samuel, and called the ambulance and fire services.

The blaze threatened to spread to an adjacent house, but officers avoided it being spread.

La Rosa was pronounced dead at the scene while Samuel was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was warded and is said to be in a critical condition.
