Illegal quarrying shut down in Wallerfield

An illegal quarrying operation on state lands in Wallerfield has been shut down, following a joint operation carried out by police and officials of the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries.

The operation, which involved officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force and officials from the Ministry of Energy, was conducted at Agua Santa Road, Block #5, Wallerfield, between 9:30am on Wednesday and 12:05am today, Thursday.

One excavator was impounded and had to be removed with assistance from the Engineering Battalion of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, and taken to Camp Cumuto.

Two other excavators, also discovered at the site, were found to have mechanical problems and were not immediately removed.

No arrest was made in connection with the finds.

Officers of the Arima CID are continuing enquiries into the ownership of the excavators and the operations of the illegal quarry.
