Injured fire officers remain warded at hospital.

NEWS GRAPHIC 15The fire officers who were shocked yesterday remain hospitalized today and are under observation.

This is according to Chief Fire Officer Roosevelt Bruce.

The officers are all assigned to the San Juan Fire Station.

They responded to an emergency call yesterday in Barataria where several maxi taxis were stranded because of flood waters.

The officers helped all passengers to safety however after they were finished the ladder used came into contact with a low-hanging high tension electrical wire.

The four officers who were handling the equipment and the driver of the tender were shocked. Fire officer Devaughn Gibson sustained the most serious injuries and was knocked unconscious.

Bruce gave an update on the officers while speaking with News Power Now this morning.

Gibson regained consciousness at the hospital but sustained serious burns to his body.

Doctors are said to monitoring him closely.

Bruce said that there is an ongoing investigation into the incident however he assured that as soon as it is completed they will be able to say whether or not there were any safety breaches.
