The Office of President made the announcement late yesterday.
Mr. Jokhoo’s resignation letter stated he was unable to continue as a member of the Integrity Commission because of urgent family commitments
President Anthony Carmona accepted Mr. Jokhoo’s resignation and thanked him for his service to the nation.
Mr. Jokhoo’s departure means the commission cannot function because under the Integrity in Public Life Act the Commission must have at least one member who is a chartered or certified accountant.
The search for a new commissioner begins, but the President can only appoint a new member after consultation with Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Rowley.
Both Mrs. Persad-Bissessar and Dr. Rowley are out of the country
