Interim Political Leader of the Independent Liberal Party, Jack Warner, claims that a senior government official tried to persuade a popular television personality to contest the St Joseph constituency.
Speaking at the I.L.P.’s public meeting held in Point Fortin on Wednesday evening and carried live on Power 102.1fm, Mr Warner said the media personality was told by the senior government official he would be given a ministerial position if he accepted the offer.
Warner has described the situation as an act of desperation by the coalition administration.
Meantime, on another issue, Mr Warner noted that Point Fortin which has played a key role in the country’s economic growth for years, has been neglected in several areas including sport and infrastructure and the time has come for this to change.
The I.L.P. leader said his party was determine to do what it could do, if given the chance by the people, to move Point Fortin from borough to city status.
