Jack Warner and Lyndira Oudit during the local government elections

When the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) holds its internal elections on June 29 one thing will be known; the party will have a new leader.

At the yesterday’s Nomination Day exercise at the party’s headquarters on Edward Street, Port-of-Spain, ILP founder and Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner announced he would not be seeking re-election, but, rather endorsed deputy political leader Lyndira Oudit be elected as the party’s first female leader.

Mr. Warner is quoted as saying that the decision was made after some reflection.

He said if the slate was supported by the party’s membership it will be another landmark decision on the road to government in 2015.
