Jamaica’s Toni Ann Singh has been crowned the 2019 Miss World. A 23-year-old psychology and women’s studies graduate, Singh attended Florida State University. Her win has been celebrated near and far. She is the fourth Jamaican woman to win the Miss World crown.

Singh accepted the crown after an amazing rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing”, her delivery sending ripples through the crowd on show night. The Miss World pageant took place in London on Saturday night. Following her acceptance of the crown, Singh tweeted, “To that little girl in St. Thomas, Jamaica and all the girls around the world – please believe in yourself. Please know that you are worthy and capable of achieving your dreams. This crown is not mine but yours. You have a PURPOSE.”

Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi.

Singh’s win has been celebrated by the global black community, many happily celebrating the triumph of another black woman, in a major global beauty competition this month. It was only last week that South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi walked away with the Miss Universe crown.
